Limburgs Museum Venlo

A special outing for the whole family

If you are interested in culture and history and would like to know more about Limburg's past, the Limburgs Museum in Venlo is the right place for you. This museum is strongly focused on families and has very changing exhibitions that tell and depict stories of Limburgers. This especially invites interaction. There are regular events that you can take part in with the whole family. The museum is right in the centre of Venlo; within 20 minutes you can be on your doorstep.

Historic location

The museum is right in the centre of Venlo, opposite the railway station. From 1870, this area was used as a shunting yard for private railway companies. Before 1870, the city walls and fortifications of the city of Venlo were located here for centuries. In 1933, an Esso petrol station was built on this site. The filling station still exists and is the oldest surviving filling station in the Netherlands! This historic site therefore serves as inspiration for the construction of the museum.

Exhibitions

The entire museum is aimed at families. The aim is to introduce children to the history and culture of Limburg in a playful and interactive way. Through changing stories, children are taken into history. At the "Within City Walls" exhibition, you will admire the beautiful utensils and household items from the Middle Ages that were found in Venlo. There is also a special hall focusing on the last two centuries of the province of Limburg, a very important period when the province was really formed. You can also fly back in time with Professor B.C. Oud to see how people lived in Limburg in prehistory, Roman times and the Middle Ages.
